Widow, man stripped, tortured over suspected illicit affair in Chittorgarh, 3 arrested

Udaipur : In yet another shameful case of mob thrashing, a widow and her acquaintance were tied to an electricity pole for three hours, beaten and partially stripped in Dungla of Chittorgarh district on Friday. The video of the incident went viral on the social media platform, in which men can be seen thrashing the woman and man. Police swung into action and arrested three men by late evening. ” The woman said three men were the main accused while the rest of the people were trying to dissuade them. We shall be taking her statements under section 164 CrPC and the rest of the investigation shall follow after that” Chittorgarh SP Deepak Bhargava  told Udaipur Kiran. The accused are said to be distant relatives of the woman. 

The widow lived with her 3-year old son in Dungla .On Friday morning one of an acquaintance, a youth from another village, arrived at her home to give some essentials. While he was inside, few men from the neighborhood suspected them of having an illicit affair and they dragged them out of the home. Both were tied by an electricity pole and beaten. The men tore off the woman’s blouse and while the youth too was stripped. The incident happened in front of a large gathering of over 100 people including women and some even tried to deter the men from the disgraceful act. Another woman who tried to stop the culprits was also beaten up.

Someone videographed the episode and circulated it over social media. On SP’ order Dungla SHO Om Singh registered a complaint and the men and woman were taken for medical examination. Later evening, the three main accused Bansilal son of Shankar Meena, Sanvra son of Chandmal Meena and Bhagwan son of Laxman Meena were arrested. Officials said an investigation is underway and involvement of others in the act would be determined and if more persons are found guilty, they too would be nabbed.
