PM Modi Receives Prestigious Agricola Medal in Rome

Rome, May 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the prestigious ‘Agricola Medal’ at a ceremony held at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy, on May 20, 2026. This is the highest honor conferred by the FAO.

The medal was presented to Prime Minister Modi by the FAO Director-General in the historic FAO Plenary Hall. According to the organization, this honor recognizes his contributions to food security, agricultural development, and the welfare of farmers.

Congratulating the Prime Minister, Q Dongyu stated that this award reflects Modi’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity, strengthening food security, and improving the lives of farmers.

He also appreciated India’s cooperation in fighting hunger and poverty, promoting universal food security, and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The FAO chief praised Modi’s leadership in transforming India’s agricultural system through farmer-centric and technology-based initiatives. He highlighted India’s significant food and agricultural programs, noting that nearly 800 million people received food assistance and over 110 million farmers received direct financial support since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Q Dongyu commended India’s efforts to promote natural and sustainable farming. He also praised the initiative to globally promote nutritious coarse grains through the ‘International Year of Millets’ in collaboration with the FAO.

He emphasized the importance of India’s focus on digital public infrastructure during its G20 presidency, which has helped increase access to digital technology in developing countries and deliver services more effectively to the people.

The FAO chief remarked that these ongoing efforts have significantly aided millions in India in escaping poverty.
