Lucknow, May 24 – In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision to transform Uttar Pradesh into a hub of eco-tourism, the state’s Forest and Wildlife Department has announced an ambitious plan to launch jungle safaris even during the monsoon season under a new initiative titled “Buffer Mein Safar”.
This groundbreaking initiative will open new safari routes in the buffer zones of major tiger reserves such as Dudhwa, Pilibhit, Sohagibarwa, and North Kheri, enabling tourists to enjoy the wilderness year-round, regardless of seasonal restrictions.
Monsoon Safaris in Buffer Zones
Traditionally, core forest areas remain closed during monsoon due to safety and conservation concerns. However, the new plan to utilize buffer zones will allow tourists to experience the thrill of wildlife safaris even in the rainy season, offering a unique perspective of the lush green forests and active biodiversity during this period.
The project aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict by managing visitor flow effectively while also generating awareness and income through sustainable tourism.
New Eco-Tourism Hotspots: Bhira and Mohammadi
Expanding beyond the traditional tiger reserves, the department is developing Bhira and Mohammadi in Lakhimpur Kheri as emerging eco-tourism destinations. A tourist circuit has already been established in Gola, Mohammadi Range, and Bhira, integrating scenic and biodiversity-rich areas into the tourism map.
The Semarai Lake, a well-known haven for migratory birds, will also be included in this eco-circuit, boosting the region’s appeal for bird watchers and nature lovers. Jungle safari operations have additionally been initiated in the buffer zone of Katerniaghat, near the Nepal border.
Tourist Amenities and Local Employment
To enhance the visitor experience, the government has set up a modern information center in Dudhwa tourism complex. This facility will offer insights into the local flora, fauna, and cultural heritage, while also educating tourists about environmental conservation.
The initiative also focuses on local employment generation. Youths from nearby villages are being trained as nature guides, canteen operators, and chefs, ensuring quality hospitality while opening up sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities.
A Major Step Towards Eco-Tourism Leadership
Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh confirmed that these steps are part of a broader strategy to position Uttar Pradesh as a premier eco-tourism destination on the national and global stage. “The integrated approach to conservation, tourism, and community engagement will place UP firmly on the map as a model state for eco-tourism,” he said.
The state has already witnessed a sharp rise in eco-tourism footfall in recent years, reflecting the growing interest in sustainable and nature-based travel experiences. With these new initiatives, Uttar Pradesh is poised to set a benchmark in eco-tourism and year-round wildlife exploration.
