USA wins first-ever T20 series, defeating Bangladesh in back-to-back matches

Houston : The USA has made history by winning its first-ever T20 International series, defeating Bangladesh by 6 wickets in the second T20 match.

In the second match of the three-match series at Prairie View Cricket Complex, the home team secured victory and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Chasing a target of 144 runs on a good batting surface, Bangladesh’s batsmen struggled to find fluency and rhythm and were eventually forced to succumb to disciplined bowling. Bangladesh won the toss on Thursday and elected to bowl first.

Steven Taylor and captain and wicketkeeper batsman Monank Patel gave USA a solid start, adding 44 runs for the first wicket in 6.3 overs, but then Rishad Hussain gave Bangladesh a double breakthrough by dismissing Taylor and Andreas Gous on consecutive balls. Taylor scored 31 runs off 28 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Gous failed to open his account.

Monank and Aaron Jones then took the team’s score past 100. Jones was dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman for 35 runs at a total score of 104. Jones scored 35 runs off 34 balls, hitting 3 fours and 1 six. Corey Anderson failed to do anything special and was dismissed by Shoriful Islam for 11 runs. At a score of 128, Monank Patel became Islam’s second victim. Monank scored 42 runs off 38 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Harmeet Singh (00), the hero of the previous match, failed to do anything special and was bowled by Mustafizur at a total score of 134. Nitish Kumar (not out 07) and Wayne Szkalek (not out 07) then prevented any further damage and took the USA team to a total score of 144 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.

For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Rishad Hussain took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a target of 145 runs, Bangladesh’s start was not good, and Sourabh Netravalkar sent Soumya Sarkar (00) to the pavilion in the very first over. In the fifth over, at a total score of 30, Jc Singh dismissed Tanzid Hasan (19) bowling him, giving Bangladesh their second setback. From there, Najmul Hossain Shanto (36), Tauhid Hridoy (25), and Shakib Al Hasan (30) took the Bangladesh score past 100, but after the dismissal of all three, Bangladesh’s batting collapsed like a house of cards, and the entire team was bundled out for 138 in 19.3 overs.

For USA, Ali Khan took 3 wickets, Sourabh Netravalkar and Shadlee Wayne Szkalek took 2 wickets each, and Jasdeep Singh (Jc), and Corey Anderson took 1 wicket each.
