Major Voter List Revision Campaign Launched Across 16 States and 3 Union Territories

New Delhi, May 21: The Election Commission of India has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR Phase 3) program aimed at making the voter list more accurate, precise, and updated. This campaign will be conducted in a phased manner across 16 states and 3 union territories. The primary objectives of this initiative are to remove fraudulent names, add new eligible voters, rectify errors in the voter list, and prepare a fully ready list for the upcoming elections.

The campaign includes house-to-house verification by Block Level Officers (BLOs), rationalization of polling stations, publication of the draft voter list, hearing of claims and objections, and the publication of the final voter list.

In Nagaland and Tripura, the eligibility date for SIR has been set for October 1, 2026. In Nagaland, preparations, training, and printing for the SIR program will take place from August 5 to August 14, 2026. The house-to-house survey conducted by BLOs will occur from August 16 to September 14, 2026. Rationalization of polling stations is expected to be completed by September 14, 2026, with the draft voter list published on September 20, 2026. Claims and objections can be filed from September 20 to October 20, 2026, with the final voter list to be issued on November 22, 2026.

In Tripura, the program will commence slightly later, with preparations, training, and printing scheduled from September 5 to September 14, 2026. The house-to-house survey will be conducted from September 15 to October 14, 2026, and rationalization of polling stations will be completed by October 14, 2026. The draft voter list will be published on October 21, 2026, with the final voter list released on December 23, 2026.

For other states, the eligibility date has been set for July 1, 2026, in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur. The process will also begin in Dadra and Nagar Haveli-Daman and Diu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh from July 2026. Meanwhile, in Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi, the eligibility date is October 1, 2026.

The Election Commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officers of all states to complete this campaign with full transparency and timeliness. The Commission believes that this special initiative will significantly improve the quality of the voter list and strengthen the foundation of democracy.
