Udaipur Police Arrests Fraudster Who Duped Oberoi Udaivilas Hotel of ₹20 Lakh

Udaipur : The Amba Mata Police Station in Udaipur has arrested a fraudster from Telangana who duped a luxury hotel of ₹20 lakh. The accused, identified as Shahenshah Sharif, had booked four rooms at the Oberoi Udaivilas hotel for three nights on January 8.

When he checked in, Sharif showed the hotel staff a receipt for ₹11.16 lakh that he had paid online. He claimed that the payment was from an international account and would take 48 hours to clear. The hotel staff believed him and allowed him to check in.

On January 9, Sharif purchased jewellery from the hotel worth ₹6.79 lakh. He again showed the hotel staff a receipt for the payment and claimed that it was pending.

After 48 hours, the hotel staff contacted Sharif to inquire about the payment. Sharif told them that he would pay by card. However, he never returned to the hotel and instead left town.

The hotel staff filed a complaint with the police, who launched an investigation. The police traced Sharif to Hyderabad, where he had pledged the jewellery he had purchased from the hotel as collateral for a loan.

The police arrested Sharif and brought him to Udaipur, where he was booked for fraud. He is currently in police custody.

The police said that Sharif is a habitual offender who has been arrested for similar crimes in the past. He is known for his fluency in English, which he uses to gain the trust of his victims.
