Udaipur: Maharana Pratap Airport in Udaipur has been selected to implement the Digi Yatra initiative, offering passengers a seamless and paperless check-in experience. With this new system, passengers can simply scan their faces to gain entry, eliminating the need to present boarding passes or ID cards.

Efficient Check-In with Face Recognition Technology
The Digi Yatra facility, expected to be operational by the end of next year, will significantly reduce check-in times from the current 20-30 minutes to just 5-10 minutes. Using face recognition technology, passengers’ details will be securely stored in the Digi Yatra app. Once registered, travelers can proceed directly to security and boarding by scanning their faces at designated points, ensuring a faster and more efficient process.
Nationwide Adoption of Digi Yatra
Launched in 2022, Digi Yatra aims to revolutionize air travel across India by providing a contactless and paperless experience. Currently available at around 30 airports, over 60 lakh travelers have downloaded the app, and 3.25 crore passengers have already utilized the service. The initiative was first introduced at Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru airports.
Preparations Underway at Udaipur Airport
Airport Director Yogesh Nagaich confirmed that preparations are in full swing. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will soon issue tenders for the required equipment. Once installed, staff will undergo training to efficiently manage the system. On average, Maharana Pratap Airport handles 2,500 passengers daily, with approximately 1,000 expected to use the Digi Yatra service.
Key Features of Digi Yatra
- Face Recognition Technology: Passengers upload their details to the Digi Yatra app, where the information is securely stored.
- Hassle-Free Entry: Face scans allow seamless entry without physical documents.
- Enhanced Efficiency: Reduces check-in time, ensuring a smoother travel experience.
Connectivity from Udaipur Airport
Currently, Udaipur Airport operates 28 direct flights to key cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bhopal, Indore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru. With 1-1.5 lakh passengers commuting monthly, the new system is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for both domestic and international travelers.
