Ahmedabad, August 13: Over one lakh citizens participated in the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ held in Ahmedabad on August 12, as part of the celebrations for Independence Day. The procession stretched from Raipur to Sarangpur, where participants waved the national flag and paid tribute to the country’s armed forces.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi inaugurated the event by hoisting the national flag in Raipur. The rally was organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, marking the celebration of independence and the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram.’
Originally scheduled for August 11, the event was rescheduled to August 12. Urban Development Minister Darshana Jardosh also joined the procession.
Speaking at the event, Sanghvi emphasized that patriotism has a single color across the nation, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, represented by the tricolor. He acknowledged the dedication of soldiers who stand firm in extreme weather conditions to protect the country.
Sanghvi urged citizens to express gratitude towards soldiers and their families, encouraging them to salute the bravery of the armed forces and spread the message of patriotism with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai.’ He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative has transformed into a nationwide movement, engaging people of all ages in celebrating the national flag.
The Deputy CM highlighted the participation of youth, women, and senior citizens in the Ahmedabad rally as a symbol of the city’s patriotic spirit. He called on citizens to respect the national flag, ensuring it is always flown high and handled with care.
The rally commenced from the Big Bazaar-Raipur area, passing through several parts of the old city before concluding at Sarangpur. The route was adorned with the colors of the tricolor, and 11 stages were set up at key locations like Raipur Chowk, Khadia Gate, and Sarangpur Chowk for cultural performances, featuring patriotic songs such as ‘Vande Mataram,’ ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha,’ and ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon.’ During the march, teachers from the Ahmedabad School Board carried a 300-foot-long national flag.
