Ghazipur, October 19 (Udaipur Kiran): A tragic incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district on Sunday when three girls drowned while bathing in the Ganga River at Amwaghata in the Karanda police station area. Police have recovered the bodies of two girls, while one remains missing.

According to Circle Officer (CO) Sadar Shekhar Sengar, seven girls from Ramjanpur village had gone to the Leelapur Amwaghata ghat for a ritual bath on the occasion of Narak Chaturdashi. While four girls stayed on the riverbank, three — Poonam Yadav (18), Roli Yadav (16), and Khushi Yadav (14) — entered the water to bathe and accidentally went into deeper areas, leading to their drowning.
Hearing their cries for help, the other girls on the bank alerted nearby people. Local boatmen and fishermen immediately rushed to rescue them. Police teams also arrived promptly and began a search operation with the help of divers. After extensive efforts, the bodies of Poonam and Roli were recovered, while the search continues for Khushi.
CO Sengar confirmed that two girls died due to drowning and teams are still working to locate the missing girl.
