Tension in Banswara hamlet after woman dies of alleged acid attack

Udaipur : Tension prevailed for some hours at Lambi Doongri village in Jolana under Arthuna police station in Banswara district on Friday after the death of a 45-year old woman who was allegedly attacked with acid by few men from the neighbourhood. The victim’s family members alleged that the woman was milking her cows in the courtyard on Thursday morning when three men barged in and threw acid on her. On friday morning a mob laid an attack over the accused’s house, pelted stones and damaged items kept in open. The inmates of the house evacuated the place and moved to a safer place, sources said. Later police intervened and assured to catch the culprits soon.

According to the police, the victim Shanti wife of Manji died during treatment at the district hospital on thursday. She was referred from Arthuna primary health center when her condition had turned serious. “There were some marks on the woman’s neck and froth was coming out from her mouth when she was brought to the hospital. Whether she was actually attacked with acid or forced to drink it would only be known once the autopsy report is received” Gehrilal Gurjar, SHO Arthuna police station said.

Police said that the woman’s husband was in dispute with one Kishan in the neighbourhood over a property and her family members claimed that Shanti was beaten few months ago by the accused. Sources said her husband’s role too is under suspicion as he was the one to continuously claim that she was attacked with acid while prima facie no traces of such attack were found from the spot.
