Hyderabad, May 12: The Cyberabad police in Telangana have accelerated their investigation into a POCSO case registered against Bandhi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister Bandhi Sanjay Kumar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rithiraj visited the Bashirabad police station to assess the status of the investigation.
DCP Rithiraj, along with the Assistant Commissioner of Police and the station officer, reviewed the details of the case. In a media briefing, he stated that discussions on further actions had taken place, and a work plan had been devised to advance the investigation.
The victim’s statement has already been recorded, but additional information is still required, and further discussions with her will be conducted. The police have completed the process of gathering necessary documents and evidence following the registration of the POCSO case.
The DCP indicated that the accused is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate him using call detail records and other information. Earlier, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had instructed Director General of Police C.V. Anand to initiate an immediate investigation into the matter.
The Chief Minister also ordered the formation of a special team for a detailed inquiry, which includes allegations of sexual harassment against a minor. It has been reported that the Chief Minister questioned the DGP regarding delays in action despite a complaint being filed at the Bashirabad police station on May 8.
The Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also constituted a special bench to hear the case. The victim’s mother alleged that the accused had been harassing her daughter for the past six months and that inappropriate behavior occurred at a farmhouse in Mokhinabad.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act, as well as sections 74 and 75 of the Indian Penal Code. Meanwhile, the accused, Bandhi Bhagirath (25), has filed a counter-complaint against the girl and her parents at the Karimnagar police station, alleging an attempt to trap him and extort ₹5 crore.
In response, the police have also registered cases against the girl and her parents under various sections, including extortion and criminal conspiracy. The state minister has denied the allegations against his son, labeling them as a political conspiracy.
