Siwan, May 18: Bihar Police are taking decisive action against criminals, as evidenced by a recent encounter in Siwan district. Reports indicate that a wanted criminal was injured during a confrontation with the police on Monday.
A police officer revealed that the police received information early in the morning about a fugitive heading home from Uttar Pradesh. Acting on this tip, the Marwa police team initiated a thorough vehicle inspection campaign in the area. During the checks, they attempted to stop a suspicious motorcycle rider near the Chhath Ghat at Bedouli Mor.
Upon noticing the police, the individual opened fire at them. In response to the escalating situation, the police team fired back in self-defense, injuring the suspect in the leg. The injured criminal was quickly transported under police protection to PMCH, Patna, for treatment, where he is currently receiving care.
The suspect has been identified as Ankit Singh, a resident of Siswan in Siwan district. Preliminary investigations have revealed his involvement in a robbery that occurred on May 6 at a jewelry store in the Jamapur market area under the jurisdiction of the Jiradei police station. During that incident, the criminals fired a total of four rounds, three inside the store and one outside while stealing a motorcycle.
The stolen motorcycle has been seized from the scene, along with a loaded country-made pistol and two spent cartridges. Ankit has multiple criminal cases registered against him at Rasulpur, Manjhi, Raghunathpur, and Jiradei police stations, including over five related to jewelry theft.
The police have arrested the injured suspect and are continuing their investigation.
