Udaipur, May 12, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – The Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department of RNT Medical College successfully performed a complex and high-risk heart surgery to remove a massive tumour from both upper chambers of a patient’s heart.
The surgery was carried out on May 8 on a 55-year-old patient from Chittorgarh. According to doctors, the tumour had spread across both atriums of the heart and was deeply attached to the left atrial wall, mitral valve and inter-atrial septum.
Due to the condition, the patient was suffering from severe breathing difficulties, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.
The patient had consulted senior cardiothoracic surgeon and department head Vinay Naithani, after which doctors informed the family about the high-risk nature of the surgery. Following consent from the patient and family members, the medical team proceeded with the operation.
Under the leadership of Dr Vinay Naithani, doctors performed a six-hour open-heart surgery using the cardiopulmonary bypass technique. Initially, surgeons attempted to remove the tumour through the right atrium, but due to its large size and strong attachment, the left atrium also had to be opened.
Doctors said the tumour was carefully removed in one piece during the surgery. The patient is now stable and has started taking normal food.
The anaesthesia team included Udita Naithani and Mahesh, while the surgical team included Jyotindra, Atul and nursing staff member Santosh.
