Surendra Singh Devda Wins Silver at All India Pistol Shooting Championship

Udaipur, 14 November (Udaipur Kiran). Mewar’s young shooter Surendra Singh Devda has made the region proud by winning the individual silver medal in the Deaf category of the All India G.V. Mavlankar Pistol Shooting Championship, held at the Military & Rifle Club, Khanpur, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Surendra Singh, who has been speech- and hearing-impaired since childhood, competed in the 10m pistol event and delivered an impressive performance to secure the silver medal.

Rajasthan team manager and Surendra’s coach, Dr. Jitendra Singh Maida, said Surendra began training with him three years ago and has shown remarkable dedication and discipline. He added that all shooters at Mewar Rifle Shooting Club are deeply inspired by Surendra’s commitment to the sport.

Coach Maida also shared that before the match in Khanpur, Surendra mistakenly travelled nearly 50 km in the wrong direction, causing concern. Later, the coach brought him back to the range just in time for sighters, allowing him to participate and ultimately win the silver medal.

Surendra has earlier won a gold medal at Open India Goa and a silver medal at North Zone Delhi. He will next compete in the National Championship in Delhi this December.

Surendra’s father, Nirbhay Singh Devda, is an electronics engineer, while his mother, Paras Kanwar, is a homemaker. His younger brother, Bhupendra Singh Devda, works in property and finance. Surendra completed his schooling at the Muk Badhir School, Ambamata, and trains at the Mewar Rifle Shooting Club, Gunjol, Nathdwara.

The Mewar Rifle Shooting Club congratulated Surendra Singh Devda on his outstanding achievement and extended best wishes for his upcoming competitions.
