Chittorgarh, June 2 — In a shocking incident late Sunday night, Ajayraj Singh, son of a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), was brutally shot dead near Hotel Vikas in Semalpura, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. The incident has sent shockwaves through the city as eyewitnesses claim the assailants opened fire more than 60 times in 20 minutes, while emergency calls to the police reportedly went unanswered.
Bajri Dispute Suspected as Motive
According to preliminary investigations, the murder appears to be linked to an ongoing rivalry, possibly over illegal gravel (bajri) mining. The victim, Ajayraj Singh, a resident of Nimbahera and son of retired ASI Shiv Singh Jhala, was dining with three friends at the hotel when the attackers struck.
Police sources confirm that a group of 8 to 10 armed men launched the deadly assault. Kotwali Station Officer Bhavanisingh stated that Ajayraj was fatally shot during the altercation and that several suspects have been identified, with police raids underway to apprehend them.
Eyewitness Account: Orchestrated Attack with Multiple Vehicles
Omkar Sharma, a friend and eyewitness who was present at the time, gave a chilling account to the media from the hospital. He claimed that around 30 to 35 armed men arrived in a fleet of 5–6 vehicles, including two Scorpios, one XUV, an Alto, a Celerio, and another Scorpio owned by Harshvardhan Singh from Sinhana.
He named several alleged attackers including Eshwarsingh, Kuldeep Singh, Motisingh (Dagla ka Kheda), Rajpal Singh, Rahul, Vikram Singh, Kamal Singh, and Bhairun Jhumpda, stating that they stormed the premises and opened fire using at least four pistols.
Omkar further alleged that reconnaissance was conducted in advance by a person named Manoj Chaudhary, indicating that the attack was pre-planned and coordinated.
No Police Response to Emergency Calls
In a damning revelation, Omkar said that despite repeated calls to emergency numbers 100 and 112, no police personnel responded during the assault, which lasted about 20 minutes. The victims were eventually transported by friends to Birla Hospital, but their ordeal didn’t end there.
Medical Negligence Alleged
Omkar also accused medical staff at Birla Hospital of neglect and apathy. He claimed that Ajayraj was still alive when brought in, but the attending doctor allegedly fled after seeing his condition. Only later, after the arrival of two policemen from Kotwali station, was the death confirmed, and the body subsequently moved to the district hospital morgue.
Police Investigation Underway
The police have registered a case and initiated a manhunt for the accused, conducting raids across multiple locations. Investigators are treating the incident as a high-priority murder case potentially linked to criminal land and mining rackets in the region.
