Sri Lanka Defeats Pakistan by 8 Wickets, Eliminates England from ODI Tri-Series Final Race

Lahore, October 27: Sri Lanka has secured a significant victory over Pakistan, defeating them by eight wickets in the ongoing ODI tri-series held on Pakistani soil. This match has effectively dashed England’s hopes of reaching the finals, which are set to take place on Saturday between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
In a crucial encounter on Tuesday, Sri Lanka’s fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka delivered a stellar performance, claiming five wickets for just 34 runs. Batting first after losing the toss, Pakistan struggled and was bowled out for a mere 110 runs. Sri Lanka chased down the target with ease, scoring 114 runs for the loss of only two wickets in just 18.1 overs, well before the floodlights at Gaddafi Stadium were fully operational.
Babar Azam was the top scorer for Pakistan, managing only 19 runs off 33 balls, while Hasan Nawaz contributed 17 runs. Shadab Khan, who had shone in the previous match against England, could only muster two runs. The rest of the batting lineup faltered, with no other player crossing the double-digit mark, leading to a total collapse at 110 all out.
In response, Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis played a remarkable innings, remaining unbeaten on 62 runs off 60 balls. He received a reprieve early in his innings and overturned an LBW decision at 44 runs. His innings included eight fours and two sixes. Avishka Fernando and Pawan Ratnayake also chipped in with 16 and 23 runs, respectively.
Sri Lanka had previously made headlines by successfully chasing down a target of 430 runs against England, marking the second-highest successful chase in ODI history.
The final match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is eagerly anticipated, with Pakistan already having secured their spot in the finals after defeating England twice in the tournament, including a thrilling one-wicket victory last Sunday. Sri Lanka, with four points from two wins, will face England on Thursday before the final showdown.
