Rajpal Yadav Granted Interim Bail by Delhi High Court

New Delhi, February 16: Comedian and veteran actor Rajpal Yadav, currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail due to a cheque bounce case, has been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court until March 18. The court stipulated that Yadav must submit a demand draft of ₹1.5 crore to secure his release. During the hearing on Monday, the court indicated that if the actor deposits the demand draft by noon, he would be released immediately; failure to do so would result in the bail being revoked.

Yadav had filed a bail petition to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur. His lawyer informed the High Court that the demand draft of ₹1.5 crore has already been submitted. Additionally, the court ordered Yadav to surrender his passport, with the next hearing scheduled for March 18.

Before the court session, actor Sonu Sood had prayed for Yadav’s release, and following the court’s decision, Yadav expressed his happiness, stating that good news for his fans is on the way. Sonu Sood took to social media platform X to share his excitement, saying, “There is great power in prayers, and soon you will receive good news. Thanks to your unwavering support, the wait is almost over. Get ready, the laughter you have missed will soon return to the screen.”

It is noteworthy that Sonu Sood initiated a campaign on social media to help secure Yadav’s release, garnering support from various stars and politicians. Tej Pratap Yadav, the national president of the Jan Shakti Party in Bihar, announced a contribution of ₹11 lakh, while music producer Indrajeet Singh donated ₹1.11 crore, and ASP Anuj Chaudhary from Firozabad contributed ₹51,000.

Rajpal Yadav is reported to have debts amounting to ₹9 crore, which he incurred while producing the film “Ata-Pata Lapatta.” The film did not perform well, leading to significant financial troubles for the actor. While he has repaid some of his debts through his work in films, a substantial amount remains outstanding.
