Hardik Pandya Trade Talks Progress as MI Rules Out Suryakumar Yadav Swap
Mumbai Indians confirmed ongoing trade discussions for Hardik Pandya, while ruling out any swap involving Suryakumar Yadav.

MUMBAI, Nov 4: Negotiations concerning Hardik Pandya’s potential trade have entered a critical phase, with the Mumbai Indians (MI) stating that Suryakumar Yadav will not be part of any exchange. MI sources firmly declared, “SKY is not up for trade, and there have been no discussions, nor will there be,” concerning Suryakumar.
Pandya, who returned to MI as captain in the 2024 season, has faced challenges leading the team, which has failed to qualify for the playoffs in two of the last three seasons. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire him in exchange for pacer Arshdeep Singh. A source indicated, “Talks are going on. Both parties (MI and PBKS) are keen to make it happen. Having said that, it is not a done deal yet.”
While discussions about a swap with PBKS include the possibility of also involving wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod, MI appears to prioritize acquiring a frontline fast bowler. Last season’s performance from Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar raised concerns, with Boult managing only two wickets in five matches.
Arshdeep Singh, who has emerged as a leading pace option for India, might fit MI’s current requirements. However, a key factor is Pandya’s own preference, as joining PBKS may not guarantee him the captaincy—currently held by Shreyas Iyer.
Meanwhile, the management of PBKS is reportedly also considering releasing players like Marcus Stoinis and Nehal Wadhera ahead of the mini-auction slated for December 16. The BCCI has extended the player retention deadline to November 17, providing both teams with time to finalize any trades.
While MI is focused on bolstering their squad with top-tier players, the potential changes, including the loss of prominent players like Hardik and Suryakumar, could mark a significant shift for the franchise. Discussions on both sides remain ongoing, with no final decisions yet made.
