The Rajasthan government has launched a landmark initiative to provide free insurance for 21 lakh livestock, including cows, buffaloes, camels, goats, and sheep, under the Mukhyamantri Mangla Pashu Bima Yojana. Online applications for the scheme have begun, with the last date to register set as January 12, 2024.

Compensation Details
Under this scheme, livestock owners will receive compensation in the event of the insured animal’s death:
- Cow (milking): ₹40,000 maximum; value calculated at ₹3,000 per liter of daily milk production.
- Buffalo (milking): ₹40,000 maximum; value calculated at ₹4,000 per liter of daily milk production.
- Camel: ₹40,000 maximum per animal.
- Sheep and Goat (female): ₹4,000 maximum per animal.
Massive Coverage Across Rajasthan
With a budget of ₹400 crore, the scheme aims to insure:
- 5 lakh milking cows.
- 5 lakh milking buffaloes.
- 5 lakh sheep and goats.
- 1 lakh camels.
This comprehensive coverage ensures financial protection for livestock owners, especially in rural and tribal areas where animal husbandry is a major source of livelihood.
Livestock Statistics in Udaipur District
According to the 2019 livestock census, Udaipur district alone houses over 28.75 lakh animals, including:
- Cows: 8.31 lakh
- Buffaloes: 5.97 lakh
- Goats: 13.60 lakh (highest due to the region’s tribal population)
- Sheep: 83,000
- Camels: 2,349

Eligible livestock owners can register online through the MMPBY portal or mobile app at https://mmpby.rajasthan.gov.in.
- Registration Deadline: January 12, 2024
- If registrations exceed the target, beneficiaries will be selected through a lottery system.
