Jaipur, October 27 (Udaipur Kiran) — The Cyber Crime Branch of Rajasthan Police has issued an important advisory to curb cyber frauds and spread awareness among citizens, particularly pensioners. The advisory warns pensioners to stay alert against fraudsters posing as officials from the Pension Directorate, who are duping people under the pretext of updating their Jeevan Pramaan Patra (life certificate) online.

Deputy Inspector General (Cyber Crime) Vikas Sharma said that the scammers contact pensioners by pretending to be employees of the pension office or related departments. They collect personal details such as date of appointment and retirement, PPO number, Aadhaar number, permanent address, monthly pension amount, and nominee details. After obtaining this information, they convince pensioners to share the OTP received on their registered mobile number.
Once the OTP is shared, fraudsters send fake links or mobile apps to gain remote access to the victim’s phone, laptop, or computer. This access allows them to directly operate the pensioner’s bank account and transfer all funds to fake bank accounts or digital wallets.
Security Advisory for Pensioners
Rajasthan Police has urged pensioners to remember that the Pension Directorate never calls individuals to update their life certificates or carries out such updates directly. The process is conducted only through authorized e-Mitra centers.
Citizens are advised not to share their OTP, bank details, or pension ID with any unknown caller. Life certificates should be submitted only through the official website, and any unfamiliar link or app should be verified before downloading. If someone pressures or threatens over a call, the recipient should immediately disconnect.
DIG Sharma added that if any pensioner becomes a victim of such fraud, they should immediately report the incident to the nearest police station, cyber police station, the Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, or contact the Cyber Helpline or Helpdesk numbers for assistance.
