Rajasthan Heatwave Turns Relentless: Night Temperatures Soar Above 30°C, Rain Alert in 22 Districts Today

Jaipur, May 24 (LIVE) – Rajasthan continues to reel under an intense heatwave as day and night temperatures break seasonal records. Several cities, including Jaipur, Bikaner, and Jodhpur, reported minimum nighttime temperatures above 30°C, providing no relief from the scorching heat even after sunset.

Rajasthan Heatwave

Bikaner recorded its hottest night of the season, with the mercury settling at 33°C, while Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, and Ganganagar also reported minimums above 31°C. These figures are 6°C higher than seasonal averages, amplifying discomfort across the state.

Red and Orange Alerts Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Bikaner and Churu, warning of severe heatwave conditions. Meanwhile, an Orange Alert is in effect for Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu, where intense heat is expected to persist.

Jaisalmer Scorches at 48°C

On Friday, Jaisalmer recorded a blistering 48°C, the highest temperature in Rajasthan so far this season. Other cities followed closely:

  • Barmer: 47.5°C

  • Bikaner: 46.4°C

  • Churu: 45.6°C

  • Jodhpur: 44.5°C

  • Ganganagar: 44.1°C

Rain and Storm Alert in 22 Districts

Despite the heatwave, rain and thunderstorm activity is expected in 22 districts today, including parts of southern Rajasthan where local weather changes brought evening showers in Pratapgarh on Friday. Dalot in the district recorded 13mm of rainfall.

Cities with Night Heat Stress

Several cities recorded uncomfortably high minimum temperatures on Friday night:

  • Bikaner: 33°C

  • Jaipur: 31.2°C

  • Kota: 31.3°C

  • Jodhpur: 31°C

  • Phalodi: 32.6°C

Cooling Stations in Churu

Early Monsoon Entry Expected

Experts predict an early monsoon arrival in Rajasthan, possibly by June 20, a week ahead of the usual schedule of June 25. Last year, the monsoon had entered the Udaipur division on time, bringing 56% above-average rainfall. A similar trend is anticipated this year due to the early advancement of the southwest monsoon across the country.

Summary

As Rajasthan endures extreme temperatures both day and night, with heatwave alerts in place and rain in pockets, the next few days will remain critical. Relief may arrive as the monsoon approaches, but until then, residents are urged to avoid outdoor exposure, stay hydrated, and follow weather advisories.
