New Delhi, March 21, 2025 – While much of North India grapples with rising temperatures, several other parts of the country are bracing for intense weather activity including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for multiple regions over the next few days, urging residents to stay alert.

Eastern and Central India to Witness Heavy Downpours
In the last 24 hours, East Madhya Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall, while hailstorms were reported in parts of South Assam, northern interior Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, northern Chhattisgarh, and adjoining regions. Strong surface winds at 50–60 km/h swept through states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha.
According to the IMD forecast, March 21 and 22 will see intense weather in:
- East Madhya Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Madhya Maharashtra
- Marathwada
- Vidarbha
- West Bengal
- Sikkim
- Bihar
- Jharkhand
- Odisha
These areas are expected to receive thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, and winds blowing at 40–50 km/h. Hailstorms are likely in parts of East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on March 21, and in Vidarbha, Bihar, Sikkim, West Bengal, and Odisha on March 21 and 22.
Northeast India Under Continuous Rain Threat
In the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh will face consistent rainfall over the next five days, with heavy showers on March 21 and 22. Similarly, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also under a rain and thunderstorm alert until March 26, according to the weather department.
Southern States to See Strong Winds and Rainfall
Southern India is not spared either. Over the next five days, areas like:
- Tamil Nadu
- Puducherry
- Karaikal
- Kerala
- Mahe
- Lakshadweep
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh
- Yanam
- Rayalaseema
- Telangana
- Interior Karnataka
…are expected to witness winds blowing at 30–40 km/h. Tamil Nadu will see heavy rainfall on March 21 and 22, while Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive intense showers from March 21 to 23.
Advisory for Citizens
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions, especially during thunderstorms and hailstorms. The IMD recommends avoiding open areas during lightning, securing outdoor belongings, and planning travel carefully during intense weather periods.
