Shamli, August 26: In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, Haryanvi singer Ankit Baliyan was shot dead by unidentified assailants. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening as Baliyan was leaving the gym.
Shamli police reported that they received a call via Dial 112 informing them that Baliyan, a resident of Bantikheda, was shot by 3-4 unknown individuals while exiting the gym, resulting in his immediate death. Upon receiving the information, the local police team rushed to the scene, took possession of the body, and initiated the necessary legal procedures, including a post-mortem.
Superintendent of Police N.P. Singh stated, “We received information around 7 PM that Ankit Baliyan regularly came to exercise at a gym in the town. As he was leaving, he was shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. So far, we have learned that four assailants arrived on two motorcycles. We are investigating the case, and we found two to three shell casings at the scene. The entire team is working on the investigation, reviewing CCTV footage, and identifying the culprits.”
According to police inquiries, it was revealed that the singer had been living in Sonipat and creating music, but after facing some disputes there, he had moved to Shamli. This raises the possibility that the incident is linked to issues in Haryana and Sonipat. Investigations are ongoing in this direction, and the Haryana police are being contacted. Multiple teams have been formed to ensure a swift resolution and apprehension of the suspects.
Ravi Sharma, the gym operator, shared, “Ankit Baliyan had been coming to our gym for about eight months. Just like any other day, he finished his workout and left, but shortly after, around four assailants opened fire and fled on foot. After being shot, he was rushed to the hospital. Approximately 20 rounds were fired.”
A close acquaintance of the deceased, Satbir Singh, expressed, “We have no information about the attackers. Those responsible for this murder must be punished. Our protest will continue. Baliyan had connections in Haryana and communicated with people there, but he had no local contacts here.”
Currently, the police have sent the body for post-mortem and are examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras. The murder has created a climate of fear in the area.
