Patna, 2 September (Kiran News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Branch Cooperative Federation Limited Bank via video conferencing from Delhi. On this occasion, he transferred an amount of ₹105 crore to the Jeevika Nidhi. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also joined the event.
This new cooperative institution has been set up to provide affordable and accessible financial services to women associated with Bihar’s rural livelihood programme ‘Jeevika’. All registered cluster-level federations will be members of this institution. The operations of the bank will be entirely digital, ensuring transparency and speed in transactions. This initiative is jointly funded by the central and Bihar state governments.
In his inaugural speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the government is committed to providing every possible opportunity to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of Bihar. He described the Jeevika Nidhi Cooperative Federation as a historic step towards empowering rural women in the state. The initiative will promote financial inclusion and encourage community-led entrepreneurship.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Expresses Gratitude
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, stating that the Jeevika Didis of Bihar have set a remarkable example today. He said that women associated with Jeevika are not only increasing family incomes but also bringing a wave of change in society. He added that this step by the central government will further empower women.
He also noted that the Bihar government has always prioritised women’s empowerment. Since coming to power in 2005, the government launched special schemes for women, formed the Jeevika group in 2006, and provided 35% reservation for women in police recruitment since 2013. The state government has approved ₹1,000 crore for this scheme.
