Paris, July 29 (Udaipur Kiran): India’s top shuttler Lakshya Sen’s impressive victory over Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in the men’s singles Group L match at the Paris Olympics has been ‘nullified’. Cordon has withdrawn from the multi-sport event due to a left elbow injury, following which the result of this match has been removed as per the rules.
Due to the elbow injury, Cordon has withdrawn from the ongoing Paris Olympics, and hence, he will not be playing his upcoming Group L matches against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie and Belgium’s Julien Carraggi. According to the BWF General Competition Regulations for Group Stage Play, the result of the match between Lakshya Sen and Kevin Cordon has been removed. The Indian shuttler will now be ranked based on the results of his remaining two matches in Group L.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen will now face Julien Carraggi in his next match on July 29. Earlier on Saturday, Lakshya defeated Kevin Cordon 21-8, 22-20 in the ongoing Paris Olympics Group L match. Lakshya won the match in straight sets, lasting 42 minutes.
Meanwhile, India won its first medal at the Paris Olympics when top shooter Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event on Sunday. The 22-year-old Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympics. Bhaker won the bronze medal with a score of 221.7, giving India its first medal in the ongoing mega event.
