Google has fixed an issue in its Chrome browser that prevented many Windows users from finding or saving their passwords. According to Google’s status page, the issue started on July 24th and lasted for nearly 18 hours before being resolved on July 25th. Around 15 million Windows users were affected by this issue.
Google alerted to the issue on July 25, writing, “We are experiencing an issue in the Chrome browser that may prevent affected users from finding or saving passwords in Chrome’s password manager.” This affects users using the M127 version of the Chrome browser.”

A significant number of users were unable to find or save passwords in the Chrome browser password manager for 17 hours and 51 minutes.
Preliminary analysis shows that the root cause of this problem is a change in product behavior without adequate functional protection. Google engineers have mitigated the problem by providing a solution.
Google expects to conduct a full IR in the coming days to uncover the root cause.
People affected by this Chrome error
According to Google, about 2% of users experienced this issue, out of a total of 25% of the user base to which the configuration change was applied. Affected users were unable to find their passwords in Chrome’s password manager. Users could save passwords, but the password was not visible to users. The impact was limited to the M127 version of the Chrome browser on the Windows platform.
Google has released the corrected version
Google has released a fix for the issue and said: “We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this service interruption/outage.” Chrome users are advised to restart their Chrome browser to ensure the fix becomes effective. To manually update Chrome, click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the screen and go to Settings → About Chrome.
