Enhanced Sensor & Video Capabilities

The Lumix S1RII features a new 44.3-megapixel back-side illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, slightly smaller than its predecessor’s 47.3-megapixel sensor. However, the new sensor improves video performance significantly, supporting:

  • 8K recording at 30 frames per second (fps)
  • 5.8K Apple ProRes RAW HQ and ProRes RAW recording without an external recorder
  • 12-bit RAW still images at up to 40 fps (electronic shutter)
  • Cropless electronic image stabilization with distortion correction

Advanced Autofocus & AI-Powered Subject Tracking

One of the biggest advancements in the Lumix S1RII is its hybrid autofocus system, which now combines phase-detect autofocus (PDAF) with contrast AF. This results in faster, more precise autofocus, especially in dynamic environments.

The camera’s AI-powered tracking system enhances subject detection and focus accuracy for:

  • Human faces and eyes
  • Animals (dogs, cats, and birds)
  • Vehicles (cars, motorcycles, bicycles, trains, and airplanes)

High-Resolution Photography & Image Stabilization

For photographers seeking maximum detail, the S1RII’s handheld high-resolution mode captures stunning 177-megapixel images by shifting the sensor half a pixel and merging multiple exposures.

In addition, in-body image stabilization (IBIS) has been significantly improved:

  • 8 stops of shake reduction for handheld shooting
  • 7 stops of stabilization when paired with a telephoto lens with optical image stabilization

Smaller, Lighter, & More Versatile Design

Despite its powerful upgrades, the Lumix S1RII is more compact and lightweight than the original S1R:

  • Weight: 1.75 lbs (compared to 2.24 lbs on the S1R)
  • 5.76-million dot OLED electronic viewfinder
  • Three-inch 1.84-million dot touchscreen LCD (articulated for flexible shooting angles)

Expanded Storage & Connectivity Options

The S1RII offers multiple storage solutions and professional connectivity:

  • Dual card slots: SD UHS-II and CFexpress Type B
  • 10Gbps USB-C port for external SSD recording
  • Full-sized HDMI port for external display connectivity
