Bhopal, Apr 9 : In an undisguised challenge to lawbreakers, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasised on Saturday that the campaign against mafias and miscreants shall continue unabated. “The Commissioner-Collector conference is a crucial medium of evaluation and will be a monthly affair. Criminals should be destroyed financially in tandem with uncompromising legal action. Alongside, the commoners’ morale must be boosted so that they raise their voice against oppressors. Land freed from the mafia will be made available to the indigent for housing,” Mr Chouhan was officially quoted as saying while addressing the senior bureaucrats via videoconferencing from Mantralaya. The meeting was informed that 1,791 cases were registered from January to March 31 while taking action against the land mafia, goons and encroachers. Thus far; 2,244 acres have been freed and are valued at about Rs 671 crore. A total 857 arrests were executed in 3,531 cases of unauthorised sand transportation and quarrying. In the January-March quarter; the accused in 281 of 286 were pronounced guilty and p shed. In March, there were 75 per cent p shments, which is the maximum in any month since 2008. While taking action against illicit liquor; 63,665 cases were registered from January to March. The NSA was invoked against five perpetrators. A total Rs 152 cr taken by chit fund companies was returned to 46,245 investors in 2021. As many as 511 FIRs were registered under the anti-adulteration campaign.
