Ahmedabad, June 15: BJP leader Rohan Gupta has criticized the Congress party, stating that it has not moved beyond the mentality of the Emergency period. His comments came in response to Congress leader Ashok Gehlot’s assertion that if Indira Gandhi were alive today, she would have banned parties like the BJP.
Gupta remarked that the Congress party remains stuck in a mindset that is rooted in the past. “They have developed such hatred for the central government that if any party defends Hindutva, Congress will threaten to ban it. This is not the India that will tolerate the Emergency,” he said, adding that both the Congress party and Indira Gandhi faced the consequences of that era.
He pointed out the hypocrisy within Congress, noting that when a chief minister from their party equates Congress with Muslims, no questions are raised, and the Constitution is not seen as being in danger. “This double standard has led to the current state of the Congress party. The country has understood the reality of Congress, which is why the public will never give them another chance,” Gupta stated.
Commenting on remarks made by a leader from the Samajwadi Party regarding Hindus, Gupta emphasized that the politics of the India alliance has centered around Hindutva. “They believe that by insulting Hindutva, they can protect their vote bank,” he said.
Gupta reiterated that no one has given the India alliance a license to comment on Hindutva. “We have always said that we are not against any party but against appeasement politics,” he added.
In response to the ongoing investigation into the teacher recruitment scam involving TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, Gupta stated that the truth needed to come out. He questioned why Banerjee’s name is associated with every corruption scandal in Bengal and mentioned that even TMC legislators have protested against him. “This is just a trailer; the reality will come to light. Abhishek Banerjee has ruined the TMC and looted public funds,” he concluded.
