Congress Leader Criticizes Governments Foreign Policy on US-Iran Deal

New Delhi, June 16: Congress leader Supriya Shrinet has sharply criticized the central government’s foreign policy while welcoming the peace agreement between the United States and Iran. She emphasized that any initiative for peace worldwide should be welcomed, as the greatest cost of wars and conflicts is borne by ordinary citizens, especially women and children.

Shrinet pointed out that three Indian nationals lost their lives during the US-Iran conflict, claiming that the deaths of Aditya Sharma, Patnaik, and Suresh Chaurasia were a direct result of American actions. She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not expressing condolences or sympathy towards the bereaved families.

The Congress leader accused the Indian government of failing to hold the US accountable. She noted that when the issue was raised with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, no apology was offered, indicating India’s ineffective communication on the matter.

Shrinet also questioned India’s role in the US-Iran peace agreement, stating that despite being a significant global power, India was conspicuously absent from the discussions, while Pakistan’s involvement was being highlighted. She asked why India was not participating in such a crucial diplomatic initiative.

Recalling the post-independence era, she mentioned that leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru adopted an independent foreign policy without succumbing to the influence of superpowers. She cited former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s prioritization of national interests despite American pressure and referred to the strong stance taken during the Devyani Khobragade incident under former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, which led to an apology from the US.

Shrinet concluded by stating that previous prime ministers have always prioritized the country’s sovereignty and respect, while the current government appears overly lenient towards the US. She asserted that self-respect and independence should be paramount in the country’s foreign policy.
