Mewar University Fudging Claims? FIR Against Chairman, Registrar and 5 Others

Chittorgarh, February 18, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – Students have lodged an FIR against seven officials of Mewar University, alleging that the institution made false claims about recognition of its B.Sc. Nursing and GNM courses and collected large sums of money from them.

The complaint was filed at Gangrar police station against Chairman Ashok Kumar Gadiya, Vice Chancellor Alok Mishra, Registrar C.D. Kumawat, Head of Department Mahavir Vairagi, Professor Mahavir Swarnkar, HOD Shoaib Khan and other responsible officials.

Allegation of False Recognition Claims

Students alleged that they were admitted to B.Sc. Nursing and GNM courses after being shown advertisements claiming recognition from the Rajasthan Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council. They claim the courses did not have approval from either council.

Payal Patil from Bhilwara stated that she took admission in 2022 after seeing a newspaper advertisement claiming full recognition. She deposited ₹1 lakh as entry fees and ₹50,000 as donation on February 13, 2022. Several other students also deposited fees and pursued studies for three years before allegedly discovering that the course had no approval from the councils.

Students said they later visited the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Minister’s Office, Secretariat and the Rajasthan Nursing Council office in Jaipur, where they were informed that the B.Sc. Nursing course had no recognition and no related file had been submitted by the university.

Forty-four students from Jammu and Kashmir had also taken admission under a special scholarship scheme. Of them, 39 were suspended after they raised questions about course recognition. They alleged that they were shown documents claiming full approval from RNC and INC. When they questioned the administration on October 19, 2024, they were suspended on grounds of indiscipline. Though assurances were reportedly given about alternative arrangements, students claim no such steps were taken.

Students further alleged that the GNM course was also being conducted without approval. Around 26 students, including Sheetal Sharma, had taken admission in the programme.

Protests over recognition have been ongoing for several days. On Tuesday, tensions escalated after some students closed the mess, leading to clashes between two groups. Incidents of vandalism were also reported. The university later declared holidays and asked students to return home.

Additional SP Sarita Singh said the situation is currently under control. Based on the complaint submitted by students, a case has been registered and investigation has begun.

Rawatbhata ADM Vinod Kumar Malhotra said that certain technical issues related to admissions in 2022-23 and 2023-24 have come to light through RNC. He stated that the administration will share detailed information after a thorough review.
