Udaipur, February 16, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) — A new chapter has been added to Udaipur’s eco-tourism with the formal inauguration of the much-awaited Lion Safari and Reptile Park at Sajjangarh Biological Park on Monday.
The facilities were inaugurated by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. He also inaugurated the Wildlife Rescue Centre at the park.
The Governor first cut the ribbon to open the newly constructed modern Reptile House within the biological park premises. Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Seduram Yadav informed that the reptile house has 10 modern enclosures designed to keep various reptile species in habitats similar to their natural surroundings. He said the facility will strengthen wildlife conservation and serve as an educational centre for tourists and students.
Later, Kataria inaugurated the Wildlife Rescue Centre and released Asiatic lion Sultan and lioness Sunaina from the rescue enclosure into the Lion Safari area for free movement. The moment was welcomed with applause by those present.
At the main gate of the Lion Safari, the Governor unveiled the inauguration plaque and formally dedicated the facility to the public. He and other guests also toured the safari in special vehicles and expressed happiness at seeing wildlife in a natural environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Kataria said the Lion Safari and Reptile House will take Udaipur’s tourism to new heights. He described the development as a proud achievement for the Mewar region, adding that it will promote wildlife conservation and create employment and economic opportunities for local residents. The Governor also planted a sapling during the programme.
Divisional Commissioner Pragya Kevalramani, District Collector Namit Mehta, senior forest officials, wildlife experts, social workers and a large number of citizens were present on the occasion.
