Weather Shift in NCR: Sunny Days and Pleasant Nights Ahead

The weather in Delhi and NCR is changing, with warm days and cooler nights expected, but air quality remains a concern, especially in Anand Vihar.

New Delhi, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran) : The weather in New Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) is undergoing a noticeable change. According to the India Meteorological Department, residents can expect warm days and cooler nights in the coming days.

Forecasts indicate that the sky will mostly remain clear, with daytime temperatures hovering between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius. Nighttime lows are expected to drop to around 19 to 20 degrees Celsius, offering a hint of chill. For the period from October 17 to October 22, the weather is predicted to remain relatively stable, with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees and a minimum of 20 degrees on October 17. Humidity levels will vary between 90 and 65 percent.

The clear skies are set to continue on October 18 and 19, with temperatures ranging from 32 degrees during the day to 20 degrees at night. However, by October 20, nighttime temperatures may dip further to around 19 degrees. The daytime high could rise to 33 degrees on October 21 and 22.

Unfortunately, this shift in weather has had a detrimental effect on air quality. As the temperature drops and wind speeds decrease, dust and pollution particles are accumulating in the atmosphere, leading to deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR.

In several areas of Delhi, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached concerning levels. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that Anand Vihar is currently the most polluted area, with an AQI of 348, falling into the ‘red zone’ category. Other areas like Bawana, Burari Crossing, and Alipur report AQIs of 171, 146, and 136 respectively, which are classified as ‘yellow zone’ or moderate pollution.

The situation in Ghaziabad is similarly troubling, with AQI levels bordering on hazardous. In Loni, the AQI has reached 254, while Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Sanjay Nagar report AQIs of 218, 204, and 187 respectively.

Experts suggest that the combination of strong sunlight during the day and cooler temperatures at night creates an ‘inversion’ effect that traps pollutants close to the ground, causing dust particles to accumulate in the air. If wind speeds do not increase in the coming days, air quality may continue to worsen.
