Devi Bhagwat Katha Highlights Service, Dedication and Compassion Through Stories of Behula and Sukanya
Udaipur, October 16, 2026: The inspiring stories of Sati Behula and Sukanya from the Shrimad Devi Bhagwat were narrated on the sixth day of Sharadiya Navratri during a religious programme at World of Humanity, located at Seva Tirth of Narayan Seva Sansthan in Udaipur.
The programme featured the Shrimad Devi Bhagwat Katha and ‘Apno Se Apni Baat’. Along with the worship of Goddess Katyayani, Sansthan President Prashant Agrawal highlighted the values of service, dedication, patience and compassion. He said helping people in need is a true expression of devotion.

Story of Behula Highlights Faith and Determination
Explaining the story of Sati Behula, Agrawal said unwavering faith and determination can give people the strength to overcome difficult circumstances.
After the death of her husband, Lakhinder, Behula refused to surrender to despair. Hoping to save his life, she undertook a six-month journey by boat. Her devotion, patience and determination became an example of how faith and perseverance can help overcome seemingly impossible challenges.
Agrawal said true devotion is not driven by ego but is rooted in humility, faith and respect for others.
Selfless Service of Caregivers Deserves Respect
Agrawal said many women continue to care selflessly for their children with disabilities, ill spouses and other family members in need for years.
Their dedication serves as an inspiration to society, he said. Such individuals need more than sympathy; they also deserve practical assistance, respect and emotional support.
He emphasised that recognising and supporting people who devote their lives to caring for others is an important expression of compassion.
Sukanya’s Story Emphasises Responsibility and Commitment
Referring to the story of Sukanya, daughter of King Sharyati, and Maharishi Chyavana, Agrawal highlighted the importance of accepting responsibility and remaining committed to service.
He said Sukanya acknowledged her mistake and fulfilled her responsibilities. True service, he explained, is demonstrated through actions and conduct rather than words alone.
Agrawal also stressed that people should not be judged by their physical appearance. Their qualities, feelings and character are what truly matter.
Appeal to Support Persons with Disabilities
Agrawal urged devotees to assist visually impaired people and other persons with disabilities, help ensure that those in need receive medical treatment, and support efforts to make them self-reliant.
