CJP Founder Abhijit Dipke Arrested in Delhi

Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Peoples Party, was arrested during a rally and will be presented in court.

New Delhi, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran) : Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), was arrested in New Delhi on October 17 during a rally in Connaught Place. He is set to be presented before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court on Saturday.

Dipke was taken into custody during the CJP’s ‘Lahra Do Tiranga’ rally at Central Park. Ratna Singh, head of legal affairs for the CJP, confirmed the arrest on social media, stating that Dipke’s current location is unknown and that lawyers have not yet been able to meet with him.

The arrest comes amid heightened tensions following the detention of two CJP co-organizers, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to judicial custody for allegedly entering Jantar Mantar and hoisting the national flag on October 13. This incident occurred just a day after the area was “de-notified” for protests.

This marks the second time in a week that Dipke has been detained by Delhi police. He was previously taken into custody shortly after arriving in the national capital from Mumbai to participate in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged manipulation of the voter list.

Before the rally, the Delhi police issued a notice to Dipke, stating that Connaught Place was not an authorized location for protests and that the New Delhi Municipal Council had not granted permission for the proposed ‘Tiranga Yatra.’ The notice, issued under Section 163 of the Indian Citizen Safety Code, warned that marching or assembling in the area would violate an existing prohibitory order.

During interactions with police at his residence, Dipke questioned the basis of his detention, asking, “What charges have been made against me?” When informed that he could not proceed to New Delhi, he inquired if he could go elsewhere and what law he had violated.

Police clarified that while there is no restriction on displaying the national flag, holding a procession without permission and gathering in violation of prohibitions could lead to legal consequences. Dipke was also reminded about the regulations related to the proper display of the national flag as outlined in the Flag Code.
