Kolkata, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran): With the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon underway, dry and cool northwesterly winds have started moving towards Bengal. The clash of these opposing air masses is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall across six districts of North and South Bengal just before the weekend, coinciding with Kali Puja.

According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, the weather will remain generally dry across 12 districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata. However, light showers are likely in the coastal areas of South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore, as well as in parts of North 24 Parganas. In North Bengal, rainfall is expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri districts.
The weather office stated that the southwest monsoon has already withdrawn from most parts of the country, remaining active only in certain areas of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.
Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean. Meteorologists said it may gradually intensify into a low-pressure area, though it is expected to stay far from Bengal and will not have a direct impact on the state’s weather.
While some clouds may appear over Kolkata’s skyline, most districts in South Bengal are likely to experience generally clear weather.
