Lancashire Appoints Steven Croft as Head Coach

London, October 24 (Udaipur Kiran): English county cricket club Lancashire has officially appointed Steven Croft as its new head coach, confirming his position after a successful stint as interim coach over the past few months.

Croft took charge in May following the resignation of Dale Benkenstein. Although Lancashire struggled in the first half of the County Championship season without a single win, the team made a strong comeback to finish fifth in Division 2 and also reached the T20 Blast Finals Day.

Expressing his gratitude, Croft said, “It’s a huge honour to be appointed head coach of this great club. Lancashire has been a massive part of my life — from joining the academy as a player to captaining the side, and now taking on this new role off the field.”

He added, “I’m proud of how the team responded in the second half of last season. We have a talented and passionate group that represents the Red Rose with pride. My aim is to build on that progress, enhance player performances, and bring success back to the club.”

The 41-year-old was part of Lancashire’s 2011 County Championship-winning team and retired in 2023 after playing over 600 matches for the club.

Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton praised Croft’s leadership, saying, “We’re delighted that Steven has accepted the role on a permanent basis. He showed exceptional leadership under challenging circumstances. His passion, cricketing insight, and connection with the players make him the ideal choice.”

Chilton further confirmed that Croft will oversee day-to-day coaching of the first team, supported by assistant coach Will Porterfield, with additional coaching appointments to be announced soon.
