Paris, October 7 (Udaipur Kiran): France football team head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed on Monday that captain Kylian Mbappe will undergo a medical examination for his right ankle injury when he joins the national team camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mbappe sustained the injury during Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Villarreal on Saturday, raising concerns over his availability for the upcoming qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland.
Deschamps said, “I spoke with Kylian. He has a slight discomfort, but it’s nothing serious—otherwise, he wouldn’t have been here. We’ll assess the situation with the medical staff and monitor how it progresses. For now, I don’t have further details since the players will arrive around 4 pm (1400 GMT), after which we’ll follow the usual evaluation process.”
The coach also mentioned that Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté will undergo a fitness test after picking up an injury in the team’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
Currently, Les Bleus sit at the top of their qualifying group, having won both of their matches so far. France will face Azerbaijan on Friday at Parc des Princes, followed by a clash against Iceland three days later.
