iPhone 16 Series Reportedly Easier to Repair Than Previous Generations Due to Three Key Changes

According to this report, the iPhone 16 series may be easier to repair compared to previous generations of Apple smartphones. The Cupertino-based tech giant unveiled the iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max series at its It’s Glowtime event earlier this month. While the company mentioned the new hardware upgrades, it didn’t address the changes it made behind the scenes to make devices easier to repair. However, there are three ways Apple made the iPhone 16 the easiest iPhone to repair in its history.

iPhone 16 series repair is easier

There are several reasons why it was previously impossible to repair your iPhone at a third-party repair shop or at home. The company had a strict replacement policy that required direct orders from Apple. In addition, the battery was attached to the case with glue, making it very difficult to remove.

However, a report from Engadget says that the sticking problem no longer exists as the tech giant has changed the design of the adhesive and uses a material that separates when a low-voltage current is passed through it. A repair professional can simply use a 9-volt battery (commonly available in retail stores and used in a variety of home appliances) to remove the battery from the compartment.

There will apparently be further improvements to the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanner used for FaceID in the iPhone 16 series. Previously, it was not possible to perform repairs outside of an Apple service center due to security concerns during system setup. However, it is now reported that the new TrueDepth cameras can be easily swapped from one device to another.

The third amendment is also important. Apple introduced Repair Assistant in iOS 18 to resolve component pairing issues. As mentioned, Apple’s strict guidelines make pairing parts difficult. However, the company now allows users to configure and set up new and used parts directly on the device.

These changes make it easier for experienced users to troubleshoot minor problems or replace parts at home, and may enable others to troubleshoot through third-party service providers.
