Mumbai, November 29 (Udaipur Kiran): The Indian women’s cricket team will play a five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka in December, instead of the earlier planned series against Bangladesh. The first match of the series will be played on December 21. The matches will be hosted in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. The BCCI released the schedule on Friday.

Earlier, the India–Bangladesh women’s series, which was to include three ODIs and three T20 matches during the same period, was postponed due to political tension. This upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka will be the first assignment for the Indian women’s team after winning the ODI World Cup.
Sri Lanka last toured India for a women’s T20 series in 2016, where India registered a clean sweep with a 3–0 victory. India played their last T20 match in July this year in England, where they won a T20 series on English soil for the first time by 3–2.
The series has been scheduled just ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which will begin in January 2026. The WPL will start on January 9 in Navi Mumbai and later move to Vadodara. Notably, no Sri Lankan player has been included in any WPL team this season. After the WPL, India’s next tour will be an all-format tour of Australia in February–March.
India and Sri Lanka last faced each other on September 30 in the opening match of the ODI World Cup, where India won by 59 runs. Their previous T20 clash took place in the October 2024 T20 World Cup, in which India won by 80 runs.
The Indian women’s team won its first-ever ODI World Cup title on November 2 in Navi Mumbai by defeating South Africa. This marked India’s first ICC title in both T20 and ODI formats. Earlier, India had finished as runners-up in the ODI World Cups of 2005 and 2017.
