New Delhi, July 2: The governments of India and Japan, along with their stakeholders, will celebrate the year 2027 as the ‘India-Japan Year of Shared Horizons’. This celebration marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that both nations will collaborate to plan and host various events throughout the year in different locations across both countries, with a particular emphasis on youth participation.
According to the MEA, the week of April 28, 2027, will be celebrated as ‘India-Japan Week’, aimed at commemorating the beginning of diplomatic relations. A series of awareness and cultural programs will be organized for this purpose.

A partnership named ‘Image-75: Manga, Anime, Gaming’ will also be initiated, focusing on enhancing mutual connections and collaboration in fields like manga, anime, and gaming. This initiative is particularly significant as the popularity of Japanese manga, anime, and gaming is rapidly increasing among Indian youth, and India is emerging as a major hub for animation, gaming, comics, and new digital creative technologies.

Furthermore, a program called ‘Sport-75’ will be initiated to enhance cooperation in sports and foster connections among people, keeping in mind India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Additionally, a friendly cricket match between India and Japan will be held during the ‘Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026’, marking the beginning of the 75th-anniversary celebrations.
