IMD Warning : Heavy Rain Alert for Western Tamil Nadu Till May 2

Chennai, April 27 (Udaipur Kiran): The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall in parts of western Tamil Nadu, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Erode, starting Friday, with conditions likely to persist for at least three days.

Heavy Rain

According to the weather bulletin, a low-pressure system prevailing over Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions is expected to bring widespread rainfall across the state between April 30 and May 2.

Meteorologists indicated that the system may continue to influence weather conditions for nearly a week, bringing much-needed rainfall to several districts. Moderate rain is expected over districts along the Western Ghats as well as coastal areas of southern Tamil Nadu over the next three days.

The impact is likely to be more pronounced in hilly and adjoining regions, where geographical factors could intensify rainfall. Delta districts and coastal regions are also expected to receive moderate showers during this period.

Authorities have advised residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain cautious, as intermittent rainfall may lead to waterlogging in some locations.

A special warning has been issued for May 1 and 2, with heavy rainfall likely in districts such as Salem, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri. Strong winds are also expected during this period, which could cause local disruptions.

Wind speeds may reach up to 40 kmph in several areas during rainfall. Officials have urged fishermen and those engaged in outdoor activities to stay updated with weather advisories due to the possibility of sudden changes in conditions.

While the rainfall is expected to bring relief from intense heat, authorities have asked district administrations to remain prepared for contingencies such as falling trees, power outages, and minor flooding.

The Meteorological Department is closely monitoring the system and is expected to issue further updates as needed.
