Bhubaneswar, October 3 (Udaipur Kiran News): Odisha continues to witness heavy rainfall under the influence of a deep depression that made landfall near Gopalpur on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast late Thursday night. The weather system, moving north-northwest, has triggered widespread rain across coastal and southern districts.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, several areas have received heavy to very heavy rainfall, while a few places recorded extremely heavy showers. Officials, however, said the system is gradually weakening and rainfall intensity is likely to reduce from today.
An orange alert has been issued for Sundargarh district, warning of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, yellow alerts are in place for most other districts, urging residents to remain cautious and follow safety advisories.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds reaching 50–60 kmph lashed several parts of the state on Thursday night, uprooting trees and disrupting road traffic and power supply.
Disaster management teams and district administrations have been put on high alert to deal with any emergency. People in low-lying and riverside areas have been advised to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
Though rainfall is expected to ease gradually, the Met Department has warned that scattered heavy rain may continue over parts of northern and western Odisha during the next 24 hours.
