Jaipur, 9 September (Udaipur Kiran) – The heavy rainfall in Rajasthan is not expected to subside anytime soon. A heavy rain alert has been issued for the next three days in the state. Conditions have worsened in Ajmer due to the continuous downpour, with many colonies and roads submerged. There is a growing risk of the Foy Sagar Lake embankment breaking. In light of the situation, the district administration has called in the army for assistance.
On Sunday evening, Major Rajesh Yadav from Ajmer Cantonment, along with his team, inspected Foy Sagar Lake, Ana Sagar Lake, and other waterlogged areas. A rescue operation plan was prepared. Schools in Ajmer remained closed on Monday, and all government employees’ leaves have been canceled. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for rain in more than 20 districts on Monday. Weather experts predict relief from the rains only after 16 September. So far this season, Rajasthan has received 58% more rainfall than the average.
In Jaisalmer’s Ramgarh area, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds uprooted several trees and knocked down electricity poles, causing power outages in many areas. After the rain in Ajmer, water flooded Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s Rishi Udyan, located near Ana Sagar Lake. Residents, including monks and acharyas, are facing difficulties moving from one place to another, and 3 feet of water has accumulated in the cowshed, leading to the evacuation of all cattle. All activities in the Rishi Udyan have been suspended for the time being.
Due to the heavy rain, all schools in Ajmer have been declared closed for the day. District Collector Lokbandhu stated that in light of the rain alert, a holiday has been declared in all government and non-government schools on Monday. However, the holiday is only for students, and teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to attend.
According to Radhey Shyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Department in Jaipur, a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. It is moving toward Odisha and West Bengal and could further strengthen into a deep depression in the next day or two. Due to this system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of eastern Rajasthan on 12-13 September.
Before that, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur divisions between 8-9 September. On 10-11 September, moderate rain is likely in some parts of eastern Rajasthan, while heavy rain is expected in parts of Kota and Udaipur divisions.
