Gold and Silver Prices Climb Despite End of Wedding Season

The wedding season may have ended, but gold and silver prices continue to rise sharply in the bullion market. As the third week of December begins, gold rates have seen another surge across most states in India.

According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), gold opened at Rs. 1,33,442 per 10 grams on the morning of December 15th, hitting an all-time high. Although prices slightly dipped later in the day, gold closed at Rs. 1,33,249, marking an increase of Rs. 539 from the previous day’s Rs. 1,32,710.

Silver prices showed mixed trends. At market opening, silver rose by Rs. 2,900 per kilogram and crossed the Rs. 2 lakh mark again. However, later in the day, silver rates fell by Rs. 1,763 to Rs. 1,93,417 per kilogram from Rs. 1,95,180.

In the Varanasi bullion market, 24-karat gold prices surged by Rs. 2,330 per 10 grams to reach Rs. 1,34,880 per tola on December 15th, compared to Rs. 1,32,550 on December 14th. Similarly, in Lucknow, 24-karat gold rose by Rs. 2,550 to Rs. 1,35,680 per 10 grams.

For 22-karat gold in Varanasi, prices increased by Rs. 2,150 per 10 grams at market opening on December 15th, reaching Rs. 1,23,650, up from Rs. 1,21,500 on December 14th.

Important Tips for Buying Gold:

1. Always purchase certified gold bearing the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark. This can be an alphanumeric code like AZ4524, which confirms the purity of the gold in karats.

2. Verify the gold’s weight and current price from multiple trusted sources on the day of purchase. Prices vary depending on the purity – 24-karat, 22-karat, or 18-karat.
