New Delhi, June 17: A fire broke out at a restaurant in the South Campus area of New Delhi on Wednesday morning. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties. The fire has since been brought under control, although the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), the incident was reported at 6:09 AM near Mother Dairy in Satya Niketan, which falls under the Chanakyapuri jurisdiction. The fire originated from furniture and utensils located on the ground floor of the takeaway restaurant.
Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames. By approximately 6:50 AM, ADO Vinay confirmed that the fire was under control and that no injuries had occurred.
It is noteworthy that several fire incidents have been reported in Delhi during June. On June 14, a restaurant near the Kalkaji-Govindpuri flyover caught fire, where an elderly woman was safely rescued. Initial reports indicated that the fire caused damage to the basement, ground floor, and a temporary structure on the roof of a three-story building.
During that incident, three commercial LPG cylinders exploded, exacerbating the fire and posing additional challenges for firefighters. In a swift rescue operation, DFS personnel managed to evacuate a 70 to 75-year-old woman, Sita Devi, from the second floor.
On the night of June 12, a building in Tughlakabad Extension caught fire, resulting in three fatalities. Investigations revealed that the fire was set intentionally. A 17-year-old girl from Navjeevan Camp was identified and apprehended, who disclosed that a 27-year-old woman named Sarita had incited her to set fire to a scooter belonging to Deepak, a resident of the same building, over a monetary dispute.
Following this, police detained Sarita for questioning, during which she revealed that the plot was orchestrated at the behest of Niranjan (33) and his brother Rajkumar (27) from Navjeevan Camp, aiming to settle a personal score. Consequently, the police arrested all three suspects along with the minor.
Additionally, on June 3, a hotel fire in Malviya Nagar resulted in the deaths of 21 individuals, including several foreign nationals.
