New Delhi, March 30, 2025 — The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to introduce a groundbreaking feature that will allow its members to withdraw funds through UPI and ATM, drastically simplifying access to their retirement savings. This new initiative, expected to go live by May or early June 2025, is poised to benefit over 70 million EPFO members across India.

PF Withdrawals via UPI and ATM: A Game-Changer for Employees
According to a report from IANS, the integration of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and ATM-based withdrawals is backed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment and approved by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Employees will soon be able to instantly withdraw up to ₹1 lakh directly from their PF accounts using UPI apps or ATMs without undergoing the current multi-step online claim process.
This feature is designed to eliminate long waiting periods and provide immediate access to funds, especially during emergencies.
Expanded Use Cases & Real-Time Balance Checks
The feature also brings a host of additional benefits:
-
Check PF balance in real-time via UPI apps.
-
Instant transfer of funds to linked bank accounts.
-
Simplified access during medical emergencies, education, home loans, marriage, unemployment, and more.
-
Faster fund access for retirement planning and natural calamity relief.
Under the new system, users will no longer need to wait for claims to be manually verified and approved — making the experience seamless and user-friendly.
Digitization Drives Faster Claim Processing
Sumita Dawra, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, highlighted that EPFO has significantly improved its digital infrastructure by integrating over 120 key databases, reducing PF claim processing time to just three days. Currently, 95% of claims are processed automatically, and the upcoming system upgrades are expected to further reduce wait times and improve service quality.
Looking Ahead
This latest feature aligns with the government’s broader push towards Digital India and financial inclusion, offering EPFO members improved control, speed, and accessibility over their hard-earned savings.
The rollout of UPI and ATM-based withdrawals marks a transformative moment in India’s social security framework, ensuring that the EPFO remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of its vast member base.
