Dr. Rajendra Meghwal Honoured with PhD for Livestock Research

Udaipur, 29 December. Dr. Rajendra Kumar Meghwal from Bhansol in Mavli subdivision, currently working at the Government Multipurpose Veterinary Hospital, Udaipur district, was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy degree on 22 December 2025 by the Honorable Governor Shri Haribhau Kishanrao Bagde during the 33rd convocation of Mohanlal Sukhadia University.

Dr. Meghwal completed his research titled “An Empirical Study of Livestock Management in Rajasthan (with Reference to Rajasthan’s Artificial Insemination Policy)” under the guidance of Professor C.R. Suthar, retired Head of Department, Mohanlal Sukhadia University. The primary aim of the research is to enhance the outcomes of artificial insemination in animals, thereby establishing livestock farming as an industry. This would increase per capita income and contribute significantly to the state’s gross domestic product, supporting India’s goal of “Developed India 2047.”

Dr. Meghwal’s life has been marked by struggle. In 2006, while studying in 11th grade, he lost his father. As the eldest among four siblings, the entire family responsibility fell on his shoulders. Despite these challenges, he persevered, working as a daily wage labourer to continue his education.

In 2008, Dr. Meghwal was selected for veterinary training at Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner. Due to financial difficulties, he worked night shifts as a security guard in Jaipur while pursuing his studies. In his first attempt after training, in 2012, he was appointed as Livestock Inspector in the Rajasthan Government’s Animal Husbandry Department.

Even after securing a government job, Dr. Meghwal continued his education and completed a major research project by 2025, earning his PhD degree from the Governor. He credits his success to his late grandmother Modi Bai, late father Rupalal Ji, late maternal uncle Bhimraj Ji Meghwal (Kuncholi), mother Logri Bai, and his wife Advocate Kanku Meghwal.

On this occasion, retired Additional Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Sharad Arora, District Joint Director Dr. Suresh Jain, and other officials and staff welcomed Dr. Meghwal with garlands and encouraged him to continue such research. Their goal is to improve livestock breeds through artificial insemination and establish livestock farming as a thriving industry in the state.
