Delegation of Mewar Kshatriya Organizations Submits Memorandum Demanding Traditional Attire for Rana Punja Statue in Bhupal Sagar

Chittorgarh | May 19, 2025 — A joint delegation comprising representatives of Mewar Kshatriya Mahasabha and various Kshatriya organizations submitted a formal memorandum to the Chittorgarh District Collector today, registering strong objection to the attire being planned for the upcoming statue of Rana Punja Ji Solanki in Bhupal Sagar.

Mewar Kshatriya Mahasabha

The statue is scheduled to be installed on May 29, but concerns have been raised over the depiction of the revered Mewar warrior in attire that community members believe does not reflect his true Kshatriya warrior heritage. The delegation has demanded that Rana Punja Ji be portrayed in authentic traditional Mewari Rajput warrior attire, which is historically accurate and culturally respectful.

Leading Voices from Mewar Kshatriya Community Present

The memorandum was presented under the leadership of prominent community figures, including:

  • Maharaj Sahdev Singh Ji Narela, District President, Mewar Kshatriya Mahasabha

  • Tejpal Singh Ji Khor, District General Secretary

  • Rao Saheb Narendra Singh Ji Vijaypur, President, Johar Smriti Sansthan

  • Krishna Kanwar Ji, daughter-in-law of Rana Manohar Singh Ji Panarwa, a direct descendant of Rana Punja Ji

  • Nirmala Baisa, Women’s Vice President, Johar Smriti Sansthan

  • Thakur Shivraj Singh Ji Dhinwa, President, Mewar Kshatriya Mahasabha (Nimbahera)

  • Kan Singh Ji Suwawa and Gajraj Singh Ji Barada, Treasurer, Johar Smriti Sansthan

  • Narpat Singh Ji Bhati, Executive Member, Bhupal Rajput Hostels

  • Representatives from Karni Sena, Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, and Kshatriya Seva Sansthan Seti

The delegation emphasized that Rana Punja Ji, a symbol of courage and sacrifice in Mewar’s history, should be represented in attire that embodies the legacy of the Rajput resistance and warrior ethos. They stated that the current design being planned dilutes the cultural identity and fails to honor the warrior spirit that Rana Punja Ji symbolizes.

A Call for Cultural Sensitivity

Speaking to the media after the submission of the memorandum, leaders stressed that such statues serve as cultural and historical references for future generations. As such, every detail — especially attire — must align with the historical context and local heritage of Mewar’s valorous warriors.

They urged the district administration and statue committee to revise the costume of the statue and consult community historians and descendants before finalizing the design.

The memorandum represents a unified voice from several respected Rajput and Kshatriya institutions of Mewar, aiming to preserve the dignity, identity, and pride associated with Rana Punja Ji Solanki, a key figure in the legacy of Mewar’s fight for sovereignty alongside Maharana Pratap.
