CM Mamatas Flight Delayed by Bad Weather

Kolkata, March 26: A chartered flight carrying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was delayed for over an hour due to adverse weather conditions before successfully landing at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport around 5:30 PM on Thursday.

The Chief Minister was returning from attending several election rallies in the West Bardhaman and Birbhum districts. The flight was scheduled to land at the Kolkata airport before 4:30 PM, having taken off from Andal Airport in West Bardhaman.

Upon reaching Kolkata, the pilot contacted Air Traffic Control (ATC) for landing permission but was denied due to heavy rain and strong winds. Consequently, the chartered flight remained airborne for more than an hour. Eventually, as weather conditions improved, ATC granted landing clearance, allowing the aircraft to safely touch down.

As of the time of this report, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had left the airport for her residence without addressing the media regarding the incident.

Sources at Kolkata airport indicated that Mamata Banerjee’s chartered flight was not the only one affected by the weather; all flights arriving and departing were impacted for a period due to the adverse conditions. There was even consideration of diverting the Chief Minister’s flight to a nearby airport if the weather did not improve.

Fortunately, the weather cleared, and the flight landed safely, providing relief to all involved. Notably, West Bengal is set to hold assembly elections in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results to be announced on May 4.
